Creating better places to live, learn and work...The Canadian college and university system enjoyed a period of rapid growth in the 1960s and early 1970s when governments invested in new facilities. In the 21st century, these same campuses are required to provide an increasing array of services and technologies to an ever-larger student body. In addition, colleges and universities face the added burdens of funding shortages and the need to upgrade and renew their aging building stock in order to remain competitive. To determine the best approach to preserving and enhancing facilities, postsecondary education leaders require a long-term view of their facility portfolios, with deferred maintenance and capital-renewal projections clearly identified. The purpose is to prioritize and optimize capital investments for the long term. Ameresco has developed a comprehensive facility-renewal program specifically designed for colleges and universities. Utilizing information already collected and stored in a building inventory database, we develop an asset-planning framework that simplifies and organizes detailed building information into powerful decision-making analyses and reports. Based on this plan, we devise financial strategies that leverage facility-related savings opportunities, factoring in budgeted capital, special government funding allocations and utility incentives. These renewal programs enable maximum facility enhancement and increase operational efficiency. The resulting energy and maintenance savings are redirected to renewal priorities, which in turn enhance the campus experience for students and staff, and also improve the learning and teaching environment. Program Benefits The Ameresco Better CampusesTM program creates sustainable solutions that help conserve natural resources and reduce environmental footprints. The results speak for themselves:
