What is the OPA FIT Program?

How does the OPA Feed-in-Tariff program work?

The Ontario Power Authority (OPA) is the key body ensuring the ongoing supply of adequate electricity across Ontario. The Feed-in-Tariff program (FIT) is a comprehensive pricing structure which provides the owner of a renewable energy system, such as solar energy, with a fixed 20-year power purchase agreement at a guaranteed price. The program allows partners, like Ameresco, to pursue clean, renewable energy options with a view to selling power back to the grid.

Since the introduction of the OPA’s FIT Program in October 2009, Ameresco has been working with school districts, colleges, universities, commercial entities and municipalities to bring potential applications to approved solar projects with a successful business model.
